From The Bronx to the Billboard Charts
Multi-platinum award winning singer songwriter Prince Royce has taken the Latin music scene by storm. In the past five years alone, Royce has scored 11 number one hits, 21 Latin Billboard Awards, 18 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, 19 Premios Juventud Awards and earned nine Latin Grammy nominations. Not bad for a kid from the Bronx.
Born the second oldest of four children to Dominican parents, Royce started out on the humble elementary school stage, singing in the choir and during talent shows. By age 13, he was writing poetry, then two years later began making music, focusing on reggaeton before turning his attention to bachata, the dance and music of Dominican romance.
In 2010, Royce released his first studio album, Prince Royce, which debuted at 15 on the Billboard Latin Albums chart. The album would go on to hit number one on the US Billboard Latin Albums and be certified double platinum. It garnered a Latin Grammy nomination, three Primo lo Nuestro Awards wins and three Latin Billboard Music Awards wins.
With such a dynamo debut, Royce had nowhere to go but up. Over the next four albums, he signed with Atlantic then Sony Music, collaborated with hit artists like Pitbull, Snoop Dogg and Jennifer Lopez, then picked up18 additional Latin Billboard Awards, 15 more Primo lo Nuestro Awards, eight additional Latin Grammy nominations and more. Out of the recording studio, Royce went on to be named one of People in Espanol's "Sexiest Men Alive," was a coach on Telemundo's La Voz Kids singing competition, starred as Saint Peter in the Fox production of "The Passion," and had a recurring role on Hulu's East Los High.
